Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a statement.

Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The liquid had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.

Law enforcement then found numerous other marked cars and house walls in the nearby vicinity.

These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Police report early analysis suggest the substance was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the occurrence," they commented.

Local authorities said they were working "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.

An important official stated the attack left him speechless and required to be resolved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman focusing on people of immigrant origin in 2020.
