UK Prepared to Utilize Frozen Russia's Assets to Support Ukraine's Military Campaign
The UK is ready to advance with employing the entire amount of frozen Russian funds to bolster Ukraine's war effort, PM Sir Keir Starmer has stated.
In a joint statement, the leaders of the Britain, the French Republic, and Germany emphasized that this joint measure would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to engage in negotiations.
They clarified that the initiative would be executed in strong partnership with the United States.
United Kingdom penalties have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. But, previously, funds provided to Ukraine using Russian assets had solely been drawn from earnings and returns accrued on them.
Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the UK, the French Republic, and Germany were in agreement in their aim to advance efforts toward employing the complete amount of the immobilized Russian sovereign assets to halt hostilities.
He added that additional sanctions over the next period would heighten the tension on Russia.
This declaration follows European officials gathered in Copenhagen last week to debate using seized Russia's holdings for a €140bn credit to the Ukrainian nation.
Recently, President Donald Trump urged international partners to seize or employ seized Russian assets, as reported by reports.
The value of seized Russia's holdings in the European Union is estimated to be approximately €211bn.
