The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top strikers. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen the Attack

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.

  • Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the mid-season window has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
