New York Jets Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Shooting

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and feels certain the athlete will recover well after suffering a gunshot wound in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, currently in the hospital, was “upbeat” during a recent discussion.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that his mood is upbeat,” Glenn said Wednesday. “His family, they are holding up and he is expected to recover fully.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Don’t know just yet,” Glenn remarked. “Yet I must mention, just talking to him, he seemed very positive. Once more, that’s what gives me comfort, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

New York police issued surveillance images Monday of a man sought in the incident involving Boyd. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and authorities said it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. No one else was hurt were reported.

The incident occurred just after 2am on Sunday in the area between Madison Square Garden and the iconic square. Boyd, 29, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after being shot in the abdomen, as reported. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been on his mind “a great deal” since learning of the incident. Glenn added that Boyd and his wife recently welcomed a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he just had a kid,” Glenn said. “And I’m thinking about his wife, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“A certain process is underway, which I won’t get into, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on 18 August with an injury to his shoulder that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in spring and was expected to be a key part of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and ST coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during a practice session on early August and was carted from the field.

Boyd continued to be present all season long while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “I mean, he is a regular at our matches. He’s fully engaged. As one of the league’s best on special teams, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, a Texas native, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of Texas University in the 2019 draft. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement worth $1.6m with New York in March.
