Temporary Asylum Approvals

People granted asylum in the UK will have permission to stay in the country for limited periods, with their situation reassessed at two-and-a-half-year intervals.

This approach mirrors the method in that European nation, where asylum seekers get 24-month visas and must request extensions when they expire.

Authorities states it has commenced assisting people to repatriate to Syria by choice, following the overthrow of the current administration.

It will now start exploring mandatory repatriation to Syria and other countries where people have not typically been sent back to in the past few years.

Asylum recipients will also need to be resident in the UK for two decades before they can apply for permanent residence - increased from the existing half-decade.

At the same time, the administration will establish a new "employment and education" residence option, and encourage asylum recipients to secure jobs or start studying in order to switch onto this option and obtain permanent status faster.
