Fans Urge Detainment of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a person who jumped a fence and touched the actress during yesterday's Wicked: For Good debut be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A circulating video reveals the Australian man bypassing media personnel and charging at Grande while the cast walked down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo quickly guided the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being taken in", though court documents showed that he was due to appear on Friday morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
History of Disruptions
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed contains videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney concert in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last year.
"There needs to be action enforced against him as this is obviously a punishable act," wrote an Instagram user, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Well-being
Many supporters criticized Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had discussed dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the conclusion of her May 2017 show in Manchester, killing 22 people and wounding numerous individuals.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented a further message on Instagram.
Several supporters also questioned event staff at the premiere for not being sufficiently alert; while others requested social media platforms to remove Mr Wen's videos.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was touched by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen consoling her while Mr Wen was removed by staff.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the remaining proceedings continued without further issues.
Numerous of fans had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore mall, including some who had waited for as long as many hours before it commenced.
The movie, to be released on 21 November, is the second of a dual interpretation of the acclaimed stage production Wicked, which centers on the surprising relationship between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the twentieth-century children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a light pink glittering gown at the premiere while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were accompanied by co-star Jeff Goldblum.
