Zelenskyy States Country's Survival Relies on Partners
Kyiv's leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared in a latest discussion that Ukraine's existence relied on receiving more funds from international partners.
“I hope, God bless, they will approve this decision,” he told media outlets. If not, “We will have to find another solution, it concerns our surviving. For this reason it is essential urgently. And I count on our allies.”
EU Commission Advocates €140 Billion Compensation Funding
The European Commission continues to aim to persuade member states – including Belgium, that is currently blocking the proposal amid legal fears – to proceed with a €140 billion reparations loan based on Moscow's immobilized funds.
EU chief Ursula von der Leyen insisted this morning that it would be “the most effective way to support Kyiv's military and national finances.”
Decision Postponed Until Year-End Summit
A final decision on the matter has been postponed till the EU leaders’s summit in the last month, as the financial support required early next year.
Talks Occur Amid Corruption Scandal in Kyiv
But the talks are happening during a difficult time for Kyiv, as Zelenskyy had to move to address rising popular anger in Ukraine over a corruption scandal in the energy sector, dismissing two ministers allegedly involved in involvement in a large-scale corruption network.
Denmark's economic affairs minister Stephanie Lose was questioned on her reaction to the scandal, and insisted that there was commitment to keep aiding the Ukrainian people.
“Naturally, Ukraine will have to persistently focus with improvements, strengthening every sector of the nation [and] that also applies to fighting graft … but it is clear that there’s a strong European support with Kyiv,” she stated.
