“That was regrettable. That was kind of an exchange with Cowboys supporters out in front of us,” Jones stated during a Tuesday interview. “Present was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not Jets fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with enthusiasm for the Cowboys.”
Jones additionally clarified that the signal was completely unintentional, happening amid the excitement following the team’s final touchdown. “I just showed the incorrect digit,” he noted. “It was accidentally done. I’m not kidding. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. But it got corrected pretty quick.”
League Precedent for Proprietor Fines
This incident isn’t the first time an league proprietor has been fined for misconduct. Recent examples include:
- Panthers owner David Tepper was penalized $300K for tossing a beverage at fans in January 2024.
