The original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has claimed that corporate owner Unilever stopped the launch for a new Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, who co-founded the business with his partner, revealed how he will personally create the controversial flavor within an individual series highlighting issues the company was barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Involving Creators and Parent Company

The recent announcement deepens the continuing disagreement between the world-famous ice cream maker with Unilever, the UK-based packaged goods giant which has owned Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have asserted that the parent company along with their ice cream division Magnum unlawfully blocked their company from "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Flavor becoming an Emblem of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen stated through social media that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas for naming options and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen declared in his kitchen. “I'm making a watermelon-based ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as a symbol for support for Palestinians due to its colors, that match those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.

Historical Social Engagement plus Current Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company ceased sales of their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company selling the Israeli operation to a local licensee, thus allowing ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

The new dessert series is being created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company which originally created in 2016 for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts plus Upcoming Intentions

The founder stated that he plans to develop other ice cream flavors focusing on issues that Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly by Unilever.

This development comes after co-founder Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at the company recently, following many years of involvement, mentioning worries that its independence was undermined after Unilever's decision to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen commented that “My partner has a really big heart and this conflict with Unilever was breaking it."

“My conscience compels me to keep working inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy ensuring that the company can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which it was founded on and has maintained for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
