A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was christened after the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently made “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and strong coffee as they marked the pig's pardon.
