Law enforcement have taken into custody a duo of individuals related to a mobile phone discovered hidden within the House of Commons, which was allegedly intended to play sex noises throughout the weekly parliamentary session.

Finding and Investigation

The device was located near the frontbench during a routine sweep of the chamber. Authorities suspect it was meant to disrupt the regular debate between Keir Starmer and Kemi Badenoch in the autumn month.

A police spokesperson commented, “Around mid-morning on that specific date, a device was discovered while conducting a standard inspection of the parliamentary hall.”

Detentions and Allegations

Enquiries led officers to believe that the phone was purposely placed in a location with the aim of creating interference to business in the chamber.

• A man in his 30s was arrested on that Friday on suspected grounds of attempting to deliberately cause a disturbance.
• A second person in his 60s was taken into custody on the following Tuesday on allegations of the identical charge.
• Both have been bailed to return at a later date.

Precautions and Consequences

Increased precautions were implemented in the Commons after the phone was discovered. Audio tours and guided tours were called off, and there was reduced access to the main hall.

The House of Lords followed suit to reduce access to the Lords Chamber “for safety reasons.”

The spokesperson noted, “Enquiries remain ongoing, and we continue to keep the parliamentary officials up to date with our investigation.”

Seriousness of the Incident

The event is being regarded as grave as it represents a major breach of parliamentary security. This device was found while numerous security staff based in the parliamentary area were on strike over wages and terms.

As a result, visitors were prohibited from the parliamentary estate. Labor representatives explained that the strike proceeded due to reduction of annual leave entitlements, unchanged salaries, and an ethnicity pay gap.
